about me
hi i'm tiya & i'm a south-asian muslim girl from england :) i am at my happiest when im surrounded by warm light, travelling, being around nature and friends ❣️❣️❣️i love love!!! and human connection, i tend to gravitate to stories, art, film and music that surrounds those themes, and my own writing often reflects this interest too.
i love reading, especially poetry !! 🍓 some of my favourite writers are mary oliver, ada limón, louise glück, james baldwin, chen chen, june jordan, wendell berry, gerard manley hopkins, clarice lispector, ocean vuong, virginia woolf, emily dickinson, robert frost, william carlos williams, wallace stevens, jeanette winterson, and mahmoud darwish 🌱 i also have an interest in reading literature in translation :)
some things that i love include the colour green, late spring, matcha, heart shaped things, miffy, bikes by trees or water, impressionism, the before sunset trilogy, sunlight glittering on water, august sunflowers, browsing old book stores / record stores / antique markets, being around nature (trees, mountains, lakes, dappled sunlight, the sea), jasmine tea, maximalism, warm light, poetry, plants, the studio ghibli soundtracks, bakeries, twentieth century literature, pasta, rain, hojuicha, the moomin stories, classical music, tulips, claude monets house in giverny, sitting in cafes / coffee shops, piano / violin / jazz music, patchouli incense, almond croissants, the moon, early autumn, ramen, visiting libraries / art galleries / museums, desire paths, the smell of roses and jasmine, listening to birdsong, watching the stars, romanticism, bookstore cats, photobooths, the blue of the sky and the green of the trees in june, a good breakfast spread, scents of vanilla, ylang ylang, tonka, bergamot and amber, modernism, summer fruits, pretty ceramics, vintage shopping, freshly cut grass on a rainy day, casual domesticity, tea, love songs, being curled up on your bed reading in your room on a summer evening with the window slightly open and a gentle breeze and soft music playing, strawberries, hiking, silk and lace, the changing of the seasons, mythology, pearls, pomegranates, shea butter, bows, pictures of lovers in heart lockets <3
i adore art, and learning about its history !! some of my favourite artists are: holly warbuton, salman toor, van gogh, monet, hokusai, hiroshige, tsuchiya koitsu, mark rothko, edward hopper, octave denis victor guillonnet, ivan aivazovsky, joseba eksubi, frida kahlo, frederic edwin church & many others!! 🎨
my favourite films are before sunrise (1995), perfect days (2023) atonement (2007), past lives (2023), aftersun (2022), dead poets society (1989), your name engraved herein (2020), the grand budapest hotel (2014), the handmaiden (2016), fallen angels (1995), and pride and prejudice (2005).i adore the studio ghibli films !! my favourites are whisper of the heart, spirited away, castle in the sky, and ponyo :) i love kdramas too!! my absolute favourites are crash landing on you, vincenzo, strong girl do bong soon, weightlifting fairy kim bok-joo, hello my twenties, twenty five twenty one, hometown cha cha cha, summer strike, my liberation notes, mr plankton, my country : the new age, its okay not to be okay, sweet home, youth of may, king the land, crash course in romance, love next door, when life gives you tangerines, law and the city, daily dose of sunshine, extraordinary attorney woo, our beloved summer, see you in my 19th life, one spring night, our movie, the trunk, good boy, beyond the bar, bon appetit your majesty, and tempest <3some of my favourite tv shows are new girl, succession, industry, interview with the vampire, the bear, severance, doctor who, ghosts, and what we do in the shadows 🎞
